About This Class
Parenting can be hard on the body! Stress of the new and unknown as well as hunching over and caring for a new babe can really take its toll on the body. Come stretch and breathe with others who are sharing the same experience. Learn ways to integrate yoga into your new life. Sometimes all it takes is three deep breaths. It is possible and it will feel great. Dads and grandparents are welcome! Early walkers welcome- parents with babies who are actively and consistently walking may prefer to wait until their second year when they can join the Story Song program.
Mellissa has been teaching fitness & yoga in Kamloops since 2010. She teaches Hatha yoga classes as well as prenatal and mom & baby classes that are available to people of all levels. Mellissa’s yoga journey began in 1996 when she attended her first yoga class. That first class started the spark to the flame and yoga has been part of her life ever since. Over the years with her devotion she discovered that the practice was so much deeper than just the physical. Finding herself continually amazed at the positive effect holistic yoga has on her life. Yoga was a big part of Mellissa fertility journey, pre/post-natal and long term recovery from the birth of her twins in 2014. Mellissa is a passionate Yogini and her intention is to guide others on a positive path of healing setting them on their own yoga journey. Mellissa moved to Kamloops in May 2010. She happily resides in Kamloops with her husband their twin daughters, Jeenie & Ruby and their 4 legged daughter (dog) “Miss Jeepers”. “I am blessed to have the opportunity of celebrating and supporting many throughout their post pregnancy journey with beautiful babes in arms.”
Flexibility is Key… You Can’t Predict Your Day With a baby:
Packing up your baby to take to your yoga class adds a layer of logistics (and anxiety!) that previously didn’t exist! It’s totally do-able and you’ll feel stronger in mind, body and spirit with each class you take. I’ve seen women who are sleep deprived and overwhelmed do anything they can to get to class. Never worry about being late for a class. I know how hard it is to get out of the house with a baby. Just find your way to class and be welcomed in at whatever point you are there at. You’ll feel better for having done at least a portion of the workout and for the good chat you’ll have with the other moms later. Moms come not only for the yoga, but also for the connections they’re making with other moms in the class. When teaching these classes, I provide an environment of support to make you feel strong, safe and well cared for. I want you to laugh, to meet someone you can go for a walk with later in the week, and to be comfortable passing baby to me or one of our baby snugglers to hold!
Yoga to Support your Post-Partum Rehabilitation:
The poses I teach are carefully planned so that we’re not compromising the core and pelvic floor. Take it up a notch or tone it down a bit, it’s up to you how challenging you want each class to be. Modifications are always offered which allows mom’s to get what they need out of each class. Everyone’s post natal journey is different. By attending these classes my hope is that you lay the foundation to be your strongest and healthiest self may meet a new best friend, learn something about your body or find out about a sleep training solution that will change your life. You’ll feel happier, which will make everything about being a new mom easier to enjoy!
